She was the wife of violinist Joseph Joachim and friend to Clara Schumann and Brahms.
The song, beautifully arranged by Elliot Chasanov for Trombone and Bass Trombone (Tuba) with Piano accompaniment, is subdued, haunting and very lyrical. The form is A-B-A with an agitated middle section returning to the mysterious quiet of the beginning.
