Dialogues II for trumpet and tuba was composed in 1987, funded by a grant from the Univesity of Wisconsin-Madison Graduate School. It is one of a series of duets for tuba and other brass instruments composed by John Stevens. This four-movement work, premiered in 1988 by the composer and UW-Madison professor of trumpet John Aley, is a technically demanding work in a variety of musical styles. Both instruments require mutes, and multi-phonics are employed in the tuba part.
