This piece is the second of a triptych: Ceneri for guitar quartet; De le ceneri for guitar alone and Cena de le ceneri for guitar and string orchestra.
All are dominated by the image of ashes swept away by the wind as expressed by a text of Giordano Bruno, the italian philosopher who was burned in 1600 on the Campo dei Fiori in Rom by the Inquisition.

De le ceneri is dedicated to guitarist Matthias Spaeter in memory to his student Eric Crausaz who died an untimely death at too early age.
The work was commissioned by the Conservatory of Fribourg (Switzerland) and the first performance was given by Matthias Spaeter on April 19th 2008 at the College St. Michel’s Church in Fribourg.
