Leisner works wonders with just a baritone voice and a cello. Using a compositional style that has come upon him over the years, he has created a cycle of five songs of varied moods, based upon a German translation of classic Chinese texts. His markings (ethereal, with energy, with fiery excitement, or relaxed and simple, without artifice) impart a fair indication of the music to follow.
