He composed over eighty operas during his lifetime, and lived and worked in Naples, Venice, Rome, Florence, Vienna, and Saint Petersburg (at the invitation of Catherine the Great). Cimarosa died in Venice, on December 11th, 1801, and is buried in Campo San Angelo near the calle de Caffetier.
