The composition Cherry Lake March was written for my band students with the purpose of providing them with song to perform at concerts and various programs. The title was inspired by Cherry Lake, which is a 600 acre lake located in Madison County Florida. It is a beloved lake of Madison County that gives beautiful sights and unique activities for all ages. The name stems from the presence of wild cherry trees near the water's edge, according to Allen Morris' book of place names.
It is my hope that Cherry Lake March will provide students with a song that they will enjoy learning to play, and provide other music educators with a teaching tool that can be used to motivate and encourage their students.
Cherry Lake March is dedicated to all of my former music students in the Madison County Florida School System, who I had the privilege of teaching from 1974-2016.
