Chandos Anthem No. 4 -- O Sing unto the Lord, HWV 249b (Grote/Elvers) by George Frideric Handel Choir - Sheet Music
By George Frideric HandelThe Chandos Anthems, HWV 246-256, are a collection of eleven anthems composed by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) when he was composer in residence at Cannons, the court of James Brydges, newly the First Duke of Chandos in 1719. As the chapel was incomplete, Handel wrote these works with fairly intimate scoring, using the instruments he had available to him, which is why they generally do not include viola parts. As a result, the accompaniment for the usually small choirs take on the light texture of chamber music. The text for each of the Chandos Anthems are different psalms selected by Handel himself. Chandos Anthem No. 4: O Sing unto the Lord, HWV 249b was written between 1717 and 1718, and is a setting of the Prayer Book versions of Psalms 93 and 96. It borrows heavily from O Sing unto the Lord a New Song, HWV 249a. This edition from the Deutsche Händelgesellschaft has been edited by Gottfried Grote and Rudolf Elvers. Instrumentation: 0.1.0.1: 0.0.0.0: Org (in Score): Str (2-2-0-1-1 in set): Solo ST: Mix Chorus. Only one copy of the score is included, so if the organist and conductor are separate, an additional copy of the score will be needed.
