The piece follows a simple format and is easily playable my ensembles of and mid to high-level ability.
It is a very simple piece in terms of technicalities. It makes reference to the idea of a guard of honour through the military style snare and bass drum style. The string parts play atmospheric roles adding tone colours to the overall sonority and building up a rich texture. The piano theme at the start carries through and can be heard in other lines throughout the work mimicking that original three-note descent.
