The "Bridal Chorus" from Lohengrin by Richard Wagner is one of the most famous musical pieces associated with wedding ceremonies, often played as the bride walks down the aisle. It is popularly known as "Here Comes the Bride" in the English-speaking world.

Context in the opera:

Lohengrin is a German romantic opera composed by Richard Wagner in 1848.

The chorus appears in Act III, Scene 1, when Elsa of Brabant is being led to the bridal chamber to unite with the mysterious knight, Lohengrin.

In the opera, the chorus is sung by the bridesmaids and is not directly part of a religious ceremony, but rather a medieval wedding ritual.

Musical characteristics:

It is written in a moderate tempo, with a triumphant and emotional melodic line.

It conveys a solemn and festive atmosphere, fitting for ceremonial moments.

Cultural significance:

It became extremely popular in wedding ceremonies from the 19th century onward, especially after it was used at the wedding of Princess Victoria (daughter of Queen Victoria) in 1858.

It is often confused with Mendelssohn’s "Wedding March", which is traditionally played at the end of the ceremony.
