Breathe - SATB 4-Part - Sheet Music

This composition is the First Place Winner of our 2020-2021 Rachel Moore Composition Contest. Set to a Gaelic prayer translated into English, the flute plays the protagonist, dramatically opening the piece with a slow but flourishing melody, suggesting that this sleep may indeed be special. The choir is chant-like in their response to this opening as they implore I am placing my soul and my body On thy sanctuary this night. Sophisticated treble choirs won't want to miss this most unusual piece. Breathe" is the product of humanity during a time of disconnection and isolation. The year 2020 brought with it skies of fear and uncertainty, and magnified the importance of personal connection, comfort, and togetherness. During this time, and the many times in our lives that have felt or will inevitably feel similarly, we came to understand just how crucial it was to keep meaningful, honest relationships alive. May this piece remind us all how to sit alongside those swallowed in their own clouds of worry, and breathe.
