Set for woodwind quintet by John Gibson (flute, oboe, Bb clarinet, F horn, and bassoon)

The Rob Roy Overture for orchestra was composed in 1831 by Hector Berlioz with Sir Walter Scott's Rob Roy as inspiration. Scott's book took a rather romantic view of Rob Roy MacGregor as a Scottish Robin Hood character.  Rob Roy was born in 1671 and became a folk hero and the focus of a number of movies.  Berlioz used rollicking Scottish jig figures and many parts of the piece were later re-worked into his Harold in Italy for viola and orchestra.

The piece is about 9 minutes long.
