Beethoven's Fugue for String Quintet in D major, Op. 137 is a significant work, as it was the only piece he completed for string quintet in his late period. Composed in 1817, it was published posthumously in 1827 by Breitkopf & Härtel, hence the high opus number. The composition is scored for a string quintet with two violas and is structured as a single movement marked Allegretto, taking around two to three minutes to perform.
