Izumi Shibata commissioned the Ballad for Bass Trombone as a unique and thoughtful birthday present for her husband, who happens to play this very instrument. Thanks to her gift, bass trombone players around the world received a stunning addition to their repertoire. The ballad will be a welcomed challenge for every soloist and an interesting, though not particularly demanding, job for the accompanying ensemble.

Diese Ballade für Bassposaune“ gab eine Musikerin als originelles Geburtstagsgeschenk für ihren Mann, der eben dieses Instrument spielt, bei Jan Van der Roost in Auftrag. Von diesem Geschenk können nun alle Bassposaunisten, die mit Soloauftritten nicht gerade verwöhnt sind, profitieren. Ballad for Bass Trombone ist ein attraktives Werk: eine Herausforderung für den Solisten und eine interessante Aufgabe für das begleitende Ensemble.

Ballad for Bass Trombone est une pièce charmante qui dévoile le timbre noble et les immenses possibilités de cet instrument a priori pas très virtuose et dont le répertoire ne compte hélas que très peu d’oeuvres pour soliste. Cette composition, pourtant, contient quelques beaux défi s techniques pour le soliste et un accompagnement orchestral relativement peu exigeant.

Ballad for Bass Trombone è un pezzo aff ascinante che rivela il timbro nobile e di enormi potenzialit di questo strumento non proprio molto virtuoso, il cui repertorio non conta, purtroppo, molti lavori per solista. Questa composizione, tuttavia, contiene alcune sfi de tecniche per il solista e un accompagnamento orchestrale leggermente più esigente.
