Amore Scaduto (roughly translated “Broken Love”) borrows its title from a romance novel composer Lee Hyla saw at a newsstand in Rome in Autumn 2004. This brief duo for violin and cello mirrors the action of a romantic relationship, as the instruments find themselves in varying degrees of compatibility. Like the two parties in a troubled relationship, each threatens to take off in separate directions, yet they manage to find occasional points of unification and resolution.
