This popular and much loved hymn Amazing Grace, is arranged to the American melody 'New Britain' for string quartet. The 1st violin states the melody, accompanied by the other instruments. The first variation beginning at measure 21 sees the melody in the cello and viola, with a slower tempo allowing the upward moving 1st and 2nd violin figures to provide a gentle and moving accompaniment. The 2nd variation has the melody in the 2nd violin with the cello embarking on an energetic 'walking bass' accompaniment. In the concluding section the tempo and dynamic drop back for the final cadence. This arrangement is suitable in a church service at anytime during the year and especially during the Easter season. This is also ideal repertoire for High School and College String Quartets. The performance duration is over three minutes and the full score has four individual parts attached.
