Published by Paul Taylor (A0.1625000).This work is one of the most beloved compositions of JS Bach but has largely eluded transcription for piano. Originally for violin and accompaniment, solo piano transcriptions of it were awkward and difficult. The arranger has changed some voice leading and occasionally octave range to make the work more manageable. There is extensive pedalling indicated in the score, but only as suggestions. When performing a transcription of this type, the pedalling should be the sole providence of the player, and not the arranger necessarily. Besides this work's use as a solo piano transcription ( classical pianists would often play this to introduce their concerts ) it is widely used in commencement exercises and church functions.
