This is a string trio arrangement of Adagio, a piece originally attributed to the Italian composer Tomaso Albinoni (1671–1751). However, it was later discovered that the true composer was Remo Giazotto, a 20th-century musicologist and composer. This beautifully expressive work gained widespread recognition through The Cellist of Sarajevo, a powerful book by Steven Galloway. It has since captivated audiences with its deeply emotional and hauntingly melodic qualities.
This arrangement is scored for violin, viola, and cello, with a total duration of just over seven minutes. It is best suited for advanced intermediate musicians, primarily due to the technical demands of the violin part. While the piece is inherently slow and lyrical, certain sections call for a free-flowing tempo to allow for expressive interpretation, while others require a steady, measured pulse.
