Composed by Aram Ilyich Khachaturian. Arranged by Angus Armstrong. 20th Century Russian Ballet. Score and parts. Cherry Classics #CC3399. Published by Cherry Classics (CY.CC3399).

Spartacus is a ballet by Khachaturian written in 1954 and is one of the composer's best known works. The Adagio appears in Act II when the two lovers Spartacus and Phrygia celebrate their escape from slavery.

Angus Armstrong's great arrangement of this work is for 11-part Brass Ensemble with Timpani and Percussion. The instrumentation is:

4 Trumpets (including Piccolo and Flugelhorn), 2 Horns, 3 Trombones, Euphonium, Tuba, Timpani and Cymbals, Bass Drum, Snare Drum & Tam-tam. It is 6 minutes in length and appropriate for advanced performers.

The music has been beautifully performed by the Capital Brass of Ottawa Canada and is featured on their album "From Russia With Brass".
