Adagio for Winds (also known as “Woodwind Quintet No. 1”) is the second quintet I have composed; the first for winds. The structure of this quintet was inspired by the ascending melodic motifs found in Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings." Adagio for Winds focuses on constant tension and release, passing between instruments through the use of rising and descending melodic motifs.
The English Horn can be substituted for the French Horn and vice versa.
