This woodwind quintet arrangement of Felix Mendelssohn's "Adagio-Allegro (Mvmt I)" from his String Symphony No. 8 is a wonderfully challenging piece--quintessential Mendelssohn. It is perfect for recitals, weddings, graduation ceremonies, and background dinner music gigs. It was written for most advanced ensembles, from college groups to professional quintets. This movement features a beautiful, mysterious opening section that segues into a lively and spirited section full of dynamic contrast and fiery technical passages. I have included an alternate bass clarinet part in lieu of a missing bassoon; the bass clarinet works quite well as a substitute for the bassoon. Originally scored for string orchestra, I hope you enjoy this unique setting for winds.
