Program notes: A highly emotional, expressive and dramatic work, about the composer's struggles with mental health and overcoming those struggles. The title of the piece refers to an unconventional refuge; a place that’s dark, damp, and cold, where one goes to face their deepest fears. Only through plunging oneself into this unpleasant place, can one dig deep enough to face their internalized fears and find catharsis and redemption on the other side.
