A Gander in the Gloaming is a charming minature for four cellos, written in 2023 and inspired by observing our new family of geese taking their family walks under strict instruction from the paterfamilias*.
The harmonic language is largely diatonic and relies largely on bouncy rhythmic interplay and dynamics for forward momentum, although there are some forays into dissonance and distant key centres. The mood is wistful but optimistic and fun.
This would make a great encore piece - the sudden ending in particular - and is highly accessible for younger players.
The link is an multitrack recording - all parts played by me.

*Gander - a male goose; Gloaming - twilight, early evening.
