Several people have commented on the strange fingering in this edition. This edition is actually the same plate as the original Russian 2-piano score and some of that odd fingering is the composers own. However, I knew Beveridge Webster when he taught at Juilliard and he was angry that International had misread some of his fingerings that he had added as editor. He claimed he was going to sue them. I dont think it ever happened. He was embarrassed that they had misplaced quite a lot of his fingerings from what he had submitted. He said they never bothered to have him proofread it before it went to press. They are quite easy to spot because theyre frankly impossibly ridiculous. Dont blame him! It wasnt his fault. Often the people who do the editing work for publishers arent trained musicians and they can make mistakes that a musician would not make. As others have said, you can ignore fingerings and this edition is so close to the original Russian as to be the best option.

This edition is very nice. It is staple-bound, which isn't fantastic but it is short (50 pages) and pliable enough that it can be squashed open without too much trouble. The paper is very high quality, and the printing although perhaps scanned quite roughly roughly, is printed very well contrasts very well against the paper colour and is easily readable.

I would just like to point out that the fingering in this edition, although might appear awkward, are Prokofiev's own fingering. They may seem clumsy at first, but they do make musical sense once they are practiced. This work is a brilliant little pocket-rocket and was a great joy to perform.
