4 Duos by Richard Lane Viola - Sheet Music

By Richard Lane

Richard Lane wrote these Four Duos for me and my wife, Tanya Solomon, shortly before he died in 2004. He sent us the first three movements in May and the last movement in August. Richard was always working on several pieces at once, but this set of duos, along with his Trio No. 2 for flute, clarinet and piano (Editions Bim), could well be considered his ‘final works’. Less than a week before Richard’s stroke (which led to his death a couple of weeks later), we had the privilege to play these four duos for him at his summer house on Cape Cod, and we discussed a few changes that are reflected in this edition. These four movements cover a wide range of styles in a relatively short amount of time, from Tango and Baroque to the beautiful lyrical writing in the 2nd movement so characteristic of much of Richard’s output. They are very accessible for a wide array of audiences, and we have enjoyed the opportunity to perform them many times over the past two years. appealing music for 2 violas

These 4 duos in a modern, neoromantic idiom, are suitable for study or performance. Level is int/adv - few bowings, no fingerings supplied.
