Published by DML (A0.1109097).Catalonia has a great tradition of Christmas carols, rather like Austria. They are secular songs in general, intended to be sung by anybody at any time during the Christmas period and not specifically for use in church. According to the Catalan writer Joan Amades (1890-1959) these Christmas songs were sung by shepherds at the doors of the churches on Christmas Eve, some of the melodies date back to the 15th century. The English lyric, as with the Song Of The Birds (Cant Dels Ocells), is not a direct translation though the central elements are the same as the Catalan original. The arrangement is for two voices and guitar where the guitar part is challenging but vocal parts are not.
