Germaine Tailleferre

Germaine Tailleferre (1892-1983) was a French composer and the only female member of Les Six, a group of famous composers active in the first half of the 20th century. Tailleferre was a highly acclaimed pianist, and her range of compositions demonstrates her understanding of a wide range of instruments and ensemble. Throughout her career she composed works for piano, chamber ensemble, orchestra, the stage (opera and ballet) radio, and film. Tailleferre studied at the Paris Conservatory, where she was awarded prizes in multiple categories. Eric Satie and Maurice Ravel were champions of her early work and helped propel her career.
