About Astor Piazzolla
(1921-1922) 20th Century music - Argentina
As a composer, Astor Piazzolla was particularly noted for his works based on the Argentinian tango. He is known for developing a new style, called nuevo tango, which incorporates elements from jazz and classical music. He was also a virtuoso bandoneon player, an instrument that is played by holding it between both hands and pushing or pulling the bellows while simultaneously pressing the buttons. The bandoneon is present in most tango ensembles.
