A great introduction to basic jazz
Great variation of songs with a range of blues, trad jazz, latino, and big-band -esque jazz. One should carefully note that the books are part of an ensemble, and so in this case the Bass, Piano, Trumpet 1, Trumpet 2, and Sax 1 parts are essential. A decent drummer should be able to improvise to it/ listen to the songs on youtube etc and work from there. Guitar part is useless, virtually no point in purchasing this, and only worth having a guitar if the player is of a standard where they can improvise well to jazz music (Virtually all is ridiculous chords, which are written above the piano chords anyway.)This is a great book to practice sight reading with small ensembles and some quality tunes. I would suggest that the piano part is more difficult than Grade 2, (4 or 5,) but still very much doable, although someone of grade 2 standard would need to practice a great deal with assisstance from a teacher.
