Classical Piano Music for the Christmas Season
This is a decent collection of evocative music. Not your grandma's book of carols! All are playable except the Percy Grainger piece: as written one would need a second pianist as well! There are many pieces (for instance, those by Caesar Franck and the Es Ist Ein' Ros' Entsprungen of Johannes Brahms) originally for the organ, hence the fact that they sound rather simplistic on the piano. The majority are lower intermediate in difficulty and easy enough to learn quickly. I would recommend it to those who also serve as organists if they are pressed for time and need pieces for extra services during the season. It is also a nice book to add supplementary work for students. For advanced pianists: it a good book to practice sight reading from, to further develop that skill. All in all, a decent book at the right price.

Just as described
This book is intermediate/advanced and great for church or solo performance. Some passages are discordant, but that's to be expected from classical composers.

Exactly as Advertised
This book includes, exactly as it advertises, Classical music for the Christmas season. These are not Christmas pop songs or carols dressed up in a classical veneer, but actual compositions by actual wide variety of composers. Most of the pieces would blend into a Christmas recital, which is exactly why I bought this collection. I have several students who do not celebrate Christmas at home, but would still want to participate at our Winter recital.I would heartily recommend this book to anyone looking for something to play around the holidays that isn't just another arrangement of Jingle Bells.

Okay
1 or 2 of the pieces are sophisticated enough to be used as a solo. However, most of the pieces, although written by classical composers sound like they belong in a children's piano recital or play.Possibly a good book for a child taking piano.

mostly pluses
This is not for the person looking for Jingle Bells or Silent Night. These are all obscure pieces that are more evocative of the season than specifically Christmas oriented. having said that, there are a number of songs in which the composer built famous Christmas melodies into the overall structure. The material is extremely varied and I would suggest testing a few measure of each piece until you find one that appeals to you. There is something here for everyone. The book opens with two pieces by Bartok, which I think is unusual. Personally, I like the pieces but they aren't what I would call very accessible for most people. I would have buried them in the middle somewhere. My only major disappointment is that a few of the songs have titles that are entirely editorial. That means they are probably not even Christmas related. For example, Happiness at Christmas by Mendelsson has a fake name. The real name is Children's piece. Overall, I think this book has a lot to recommend it.

HUGE disappointment!
I gave this one star only because I couldn't give it zero. Most of these pieces are very, very short. And they are just plain uninteresting or outright ugly. Almost nothing in here is recognizable, which is fine, but it feels like someone was trying to use the scraps of unwanted pieces to put into a book and make a buck. I am a lover of piano music and have a huge library of such, but this will be the first (and hopefully only) piano book I have bought that will go into the garbage. Don't waste your time or money on this one.

Classical Piano music for Christmas
I was thrilled to see the choices and variety of genres/composers. It wasn't what I expected, but glad to see what was included. True classical pieces, that was written for Christmas in the composer's time. This doesn't mean it would be for church. But great for recitals or those play for family fun and enjoyment. The level of pieces are from intermediate to early advanced.

Classical piano music
I was not thrilled with the selections. Some are more difficult than others. I would never be interested in Bartok's music which is included in this book. A few of Cesar Franck's are nice and easy, but not memorable. I was hoping for something else in the classical Christmas music and just didn't find it.
