At the title implies, this exceptional young band composition includes variations on a lovely slow and eexpressive opening theme. A faster sections follows, carrying with it ideas from the opening before moving on to some fresh sounding flute soli work in 3/4. The final section is quite exciting and provides a brilliant conclusion. Technically within the capabilities of young mid-level bands and a outstanding choice for concert or contest!

    We are currently playing this selection at my school. I find it very captivating. The begining exibits a great entrance followed by a ritard and fermata. I also love how the timpani introduces the Measure 11 melody. The trumpets, flutes, and clarinets are great choices to play the melody. The...

    Euphonuim is a perfect choice to play the solos during the middle section and at measure 23 with the clarinet. The flute, clarinet, and trumpet grealy introduced the beginning of the middle part at 59 and the flute is the perfect choice for the main melody. At the end, Mr. Swearingen did a great job in the 'blending' sound of the instruments.
