Pianist Víkingur Ólafsson performs J.S. Bach´s "Widerstehe doch der Sünde" BWV 54 (as played by Vikingur Ólafsson) for piano solo, live at Harpa, Reykjavík.
Here we present Ólafsson's interpretation in a sensual and intimate piano transcription of the first aria from the solo alto cantata "Widerstehe doch der Sünde". Widerstehe doch der Sünde (Just resist sin), BWV 54, is a church cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach. He composed the solo cantata for alto in Weimar between 1711 and 1714, and probably performed it on the seventh Sunday after Trinity, 15 July 1714. It is Bach's first extant church cantata for a solo voice.

    Difficulty Level:
  • July 02, 2022 Not really as played by Ólafsson

Not a bad transcription in its own right, but it matches only perhaps 80% of the notes Ólafsson‘ actually plays — at best. Many notes and even some contrapuntal phrases are in a different register, and there are a few careless note mistakes. The Ólafsson claim is misleading but the arrangement...

    itself is OK.
