David Ashley White's little-known festive setting of fred Pratt Green's text "When in our Music God Is Glorified" is a wonderful alternative to the more popular tune available in most hymnals. White's setting, for 4-part chorus with descant on final stanza, brass quartet, organ and...

tympani, features music for each stanza of text which carefully reflects the mood of the given stanza. A return to the opening melodic idea at the close, along with soprano and trumpet descants, leads to a thrilling climax. The final Alleluias are repeated for emphasis and closure. I would highly recommend this for anyone celebrating the making of music as an act of worship, such as on a Choir Dedication Sunday, a large meeting of a music professional organization, etc. I have used it for all of these occasions with good results. In addition, it is very tonal and a choir of moderate to somewhat advanced skill can learn it.
