What Wondrous Love Is This

Grandma may have sung this tune 'way back when she was a girl, for the melody of What Wondrous Love Is This is listed in many hymnals as an American folk hymn that was paired with anonymous lyrics as early as 1840. In 1844, the hymn appeared in B.F. White's Sacred Harp hymnal where it gained tremendous popularity. In reality, the haunting melody was derived from an English ballad about the infamous pirate Captain Kidd (I wonder if Grandma knew that!) Moderately easy, What Wondrous Love is written in D Dorian Mode and is played on all white keys except for one note!  (length:  2:50 minutes;  three pages).
