Variations on an Irish Hymn Tune is a duo for piano and organ, transcribed from my concert band composition of the same name. The theme is the familiar hymn tune Slane, which was itself derived from an Irish folk song (of several hymns which use this tune, the most popular by far is Be Thou My Vision). It is played first in a setting of its familiar form, below a gentle "Irish penny whistle" ostinato. This is followed by seven variations and an extended finale featuring an “Irish jig” over a repeating pedal ground bass, with a climactic organ chorale coming in between the two.
Level: MA - Duration: 6:40
