This is a must for anyone who wishes to study counterpoint (the art of creating independent musical lines), and in my opinion, this piece is the best Theme & Variations ever composed. Be sure to hear the orchestral version of it as well!

This solo piano version of the Haydn Variations (which Brahms composed as a duet) has the strengths and weaknesses of a transcription. Everything is included and sounds lovely when played. However, the stretches and finger gymnastics aren't natural for the human hand, which makes execution more difficult.
