In 1976, the long silence finally gave birth to music - to the piano miniature Für Alina. It is clear that, with this piece, Part had found himself, and the compositional technique he used then for the first time inspires his oeuvre to this day. The technique, upon which Part has bestowed the name Tintinnabuli (Latin for 'little bells'), is achieved not through a progressive increase in complexity, but much rather results from an extreme reduction of the sonic material and from the discipline of limiting oneself solely to that which is essential. (Nora Part, Saale Kareda).

A very sophisticated piece despite its apparent simplicity on the page. If you love Part, this is for you.

  • September 10, 2011 great piece of music

This is a fantastic piece of music, and the printout is great. Even though the music itself is fairly easy to read and play I would say is a intermediate piece because you really have to interpret it in order to get "sound" right.Part is a wonderful composer!

  • September 08, 2011 Excellence in simplicity

This piece of music is technically simple (in appearance) but is unorthodox in timing --interpretation is the key and the difficulty. (There is a similarity, for the pianist, to some of Satie's works.) The work is short: the recorded versions on the CD "Alina" are improvisations on the score...

    - if you were to play the CD and the score, you would see the piece's beauty and subtlety and difficulty.

It would have been difficult for Part to write this piece in the 1930s because he was born in 1935. The piece "Fur Alina" was composed in 1976.

I have a recording of this title and I think there's something missing in the score because on the recording the entire score is repeated three times and varied (right hand notes played on higher octave and then left hand notes played an octave lower). I first heard my...

piano teacher playing this piece in concert and fell in love with it mostly because of the piano/cello piece which follows. Fur Alina was composed in the 1930's. Playing it puts you in a reflective, meditative mood. My teacher explained that you play it as if it's mirrored, reflecting on itself. It's not difficult, note-wise; however, pulling it off is a challenge.
