Pachelbel's Trio Suites

Delightful chamber music. See Wikipedia's entry for Pachelbel, Johann- Chamber music- Musikalische Ergotzung. Of special interest to me, it was written for amateurs so is quite approachable. As well as violins, it is equally playable and pleasant on flutes or oboes and the short pieces don't have to be played blindingly fast to be effective. A nice bonus for me is the Ciacona (actually a passacaglia, according to Willi Apel) in the C major suite in which the exact same 8 bar bass line is repeated thirteen times with lovely variations going on above. This review applies to all of Pachelbel's trio suites. These suites are a fine part of the repertoire of baroque trio sonatas and should be valued for their relative ease of playing and their genuine musical beauty. l would think that reasonably accomplished high school students should be able to play and enjoy these.
