All three nocturnes in this book are very nice and worth playing, but in my opinion, the B major nocturne Op. 22 is the greatest of the three. It demonstrates inspiration from the creator of the nocturne John Field, and a few moments remind the listener of Chopin (or, maybe...

more appropriately, make a harmless jest at Chopin; the two were dear friends, and Alkan had a wonderful sense of humor). Overall, these three pieces are not virtuosically taxing like many of Alkan's larger works or etudes, but instead are accessible to a wide range of students, amateurs/hobbyists, and professionals alike. If you can play a Field or Chopin nocturne, you can most definitely play any of these.
