Published by Travis Samuel Lohmann (S0.70279).BACK TO SCHOOL 2015Triumphant! was written in the Fall of 2014 for Director Jeremy Woolstenhulme and his Hyde Park Intermediate Orchestra, which I had the pleasure of student teaching with for eight weeks. It is a piece written specifically for middle school string orchestra (with optional percussion) which takes the players and audience on a wonderful journey of heroism and fantasy. Composed by Travis Lohmann (ASCAP), this selection is perfect for intermediate ensembles looking for a great opener. The heroic melody begins with the Violin II section and gets passed around throughout the ensemble. All players get a chance to let this melody soar (yes, even the basses). Dynamics contrasts and articulations (specifically slurs and pizzicato) should be looked upon and performed stringently. The "mysterious, forging" section gives the ensemble an opportunity to play quietly and musically. Written primarily in the key of G major, this selection doesn't burden the ensemble with a bunch of accidentals, however, please be sure to keep the F#'s high enough, and watch out for the occasional F-naturals too!
