You don't need a book of studies for the left hand alone. Good studies for both hands (Hanon, Schmitt, Pischna, Brahms, etc.)will suffice. I recommend playing those studies hands separately at first, so that you can hear every note, i.e., the work of every finger, carefully. You...

can then play hands together. Berens really offers nothing special at all. There are better, much more challenging, more effective exercises for both hands in the works cited previously. Don't waste your precious practice time with Berens! There's nothing magical about the left hand requiring special treatment. Build up your left hand technique the same way you would your right hand.

These exercises are a concentrated version of all the left hand practice materials one would need. It covers basic technique in all aspects, and is quite helpful in developing the strength and agility of the left hand. Of course it can't work miracles, but with consistent practice this book...

    is a winner.

The book is divided into 2 parts. 1st is 46 small pieces of finger exercises. And 2nd is the more musical 25 pieces of "Etude". Once you have master all of the finger exercise then practise Etudes everyday. But revise all of those finger exercise once a week. In not...

so long time you will find much improvement with your left hand sound. Be patient, the speed is not important but the good control is a must. So practise everything slowly and always be relaxed.
