Time Out -- The Dave Brubeck Quartet 50th Anniversary (Piano Solos) by Dave Brubeck Piano Solo - Sheet Music

By Dave Brubeck

The Dave Brubeck Quartet's 1959 album Time Out changed the sound of jazz and American music. Brubeck's experimentation with meter, harmony and even Turkish rhythms eventually earned him the cover of Time Magazine; the first jazz musician to achieve such a feat. Saxophonist Paul Desmond's composition Take Five went on to become the first million-selling jazz instrumental single on the Billboard Hot 100. This folio celebrates the album's 50th anniversary with full-color artwork from the original record, and a 10 page write-up from jazz historian Ted Gioia. All seven compositions from the monumental recording-- just as Brubeck played them - are featured in this collectable folio. Titles: Blue Rondo à la Turk * Strange Meadow Lark * Take Five * Three to Get Ready * Kathy's Waltz * Everybody's Jumpin' * Pick Up Sticks.

    Time Out

This book is a re-release of the iconic original version, and is identical to it, right down to the last note. They did add some interesting photos and historical notes that make this book just that much more worthwhile. While Paul Desmond's Take Five is the one piece that everyone associates with Brubeck, Strange Meadowlark and Kathy's Waltz are also classics. Some of the signature Brubeck time-bending stuff is in here too. Blue Rondo a la Turk takes 9/8 to a different place, breaking it into 2+2+2+3. And it works.

    Perfect

This book could not be better. Beautifully presented, well-constructed. Great photos and memories, but the music is just as good. Clearly presented on good paper, with chords and fingerings given. It's a treasure.
