·        Hava Nagila(Let us rejoice) was written in 1917 in Jerusalem by Avraham Zvi Idelssohn,considered to be the father of Israeli music. Idelssohn's research into themusic cultures of the different Jewish communities of Jerusalem laid thefoundation for the growth of a unique melding of east and west that is theIsraeli musical style.

·        Hevenu ShalomAleichem (We brought you peace) was firstpublished in 1910 by the musicologist Franz Haverel, as a Turkishfolk melody Sala'am Aleikum. It came to Palestine in the same year, asan advertisement for Turkish cigarettes; the tune was printed on the package.

·        Hayu Leilot(There were nights) was written by Mordecai Zeira in 1938to a poem by Yaakov Orland. Though this song is little known outside of Israeltoday, it is one of my favorites, and I hope will become one of yours as well
