Selected by James Conely. These 35 contemporary style miniatures for organ are lovely improvisatory pieces written in various styles and moods, in most major, minor and modal keys. Several pieces are marked 'con Ped.,' but since they are generally easy and most are written on two staves instead of three, they may be played on two manuals alone. Registration suggestions are included.

  • July 03, 2011 Excellent for church organists

These miniatures are well worth purchasing for beginner organists or church musicians. Most are very easy to learn, many can be sight read, and they are all grouped into keys so it makes it convenient to play several in a row as a "suite" as mentioned in a previous review...

. Finally, most can be played with either manuals only or manuals and pedal. They will work on any organ big or small. Use your imagination!

  • May 01, 2011 Wonderful pieces by a great composer

Flor Peeters is one of my favorite modern composers and his works deserve to be better known. These little gems are useful for general church services, funerals , weddings, recitals, and teaching. They are very useful as an introduction to the church modes. I originally had only the Thirty-Five Miniatures...

, but the additional thematic pieces are worth the price alone.

  • December 02, 2009 Practical Peeters Miniatures for Organ

These are terrific pieces for the beginning to intermediate level organist, or for the organist with minimal practice time. Several could be played as a "suite" for a prelude. Several few make great postludes and others for short communions or offertories. Originally published by McLaughlin & Reilly Co., these pieces were...

dedicated to my late choral conductor, Theodore Marier, who was a long time friend of Flor Peeters. The dedication was omitted by Summy-Birchard after the merger. Nonetheless, no organist should be without this useful collection.

  • July 21, 2008 Useful pieces

These are useful for church services, weddings, recitals and civic occasions. Most are playable on organ or piano. "Elegy" is absolutely gorgeous on an early 20th century American tracker organ with a dulciana and a gedeckt against each other with a pedal bourdon underneath. The marches and corteges make excellent...

processionals and recessionals for festive occasions.
