I used this book with a small group of my late intermediate students in a summer camp type setting. Drawing on my jazz band experience, I was able to guide them through this book and they were able to improvise and play melodies in many different styles by the end...

of the week. I'm not sure a teacher lacking a jazz/improvisation background could be more than a little effective with this wonderful book, nor would it be great for an intermediate student trying to learn on their own.
