These recordings from Berlin Classics are now being released in an impressive, collector's edition box set to celebrate the ninetieth birthday of one of the twentieth century's finest voices, Theo Adam. These recordings, when released individually, have thrilled listeners and been lauded by critics for years. Theo Adam's impressive career began in 1937, when he was a choirboy with the Dresden Kreuzchor. Twelve years later his career took an impressive upturn when he became a member of the famous Semperoper. This is where he achieved his fame as a virtuoso. In 2006, Theo decided that "80 is time to stop," and he brought his opera career to an end with his final performance as the hermit in Weber's Der Freischutz at the Dresden Semperoper. The booklet included in this release includes an impressive series of photographs of Theo in several of the more than 100 roles that he played in his career. Elisabeth Wilke writes of Theo, "Whether it was Schutz, the Bach Passions, operatic recitals of Mozart, Wagner, Strauss and Tchaikovsky, or equally at 'newly minted premieres'- he always succeeded in striking the spark of artistic fire and in passing it on to others.".
