  • January 07, 2013 Good collection. Excellent Variety of Scores

I like this book for the variety. There is something for everyone from the early intermediate to the advanced playerThe book starts with easy pieces such as 'Wilson's Wilde'. As you move through the book the pieces become increasing difficult, such as 'The Cobbler'. Finally there are relatively advanced...

pieces such as the fantasias. This collection also offers a few real fun guitar duets and songs that can be performed with a vocalist. (I recommend a tenor or soprano on those haha) Enjoy!

  • November 20, 2011 Very good colleciton, if a little pricy

Unlike most repertoire books, Noad's series has very thoughtful fingerings, especially ones that perhaps sacrifice the original chord voicings or a note but make the passage much easier and smoother to play. His advice on interpretation for each piece is also excellent. This book plus his other repertoire books...

would make a great addition to a music library. My only reservation in recommending them to players/students is the expense. But as a general collection of Renaissance pieces in various styles, it can't be beat. Because of the simplicity of the early pieces, and that even the most advanced pieces aren't too terribly hard, I would recommend it for intermediate and below players interested in the Renaissance. Advanced players might be better off looking at the collections of Milan, Narvaez, Dowland, et al.

  • July 22, 2009 If you're new to guitar, it's not for you

I've studied classical guitar since age 9 (I'm currently 28), and this music, while I greatly enjoy it, is very challenging. This book does NOT have tabs, so if you cannot read music you should not buy it. Also, if you are new to the guitar, and are...

not proficient in some other instrument such as piano already, I would recommend a book geared toward beginners, as I feel this would be a bit overwhelming.
