  • April 29, 2006 Smither: excellent player and sage

Chris Smither provides a useful introduction to his bluesy picking style. More than a guitar lesson, this video is a pep talk to players and singers who may be fans of Smither. I hardly knew his work before I received this gift from a (very kind) friend. But I sure...

want to learn more about his music now. The last sequence where Chris gives his two biggest tips (keep in the groove and sing your heart out!) is worth the price of this recording.

  • November 29, 2004 Generous, patient and to the point

This video gives you some of the very best of Chris Smither, whose only fault as a blues guitarist and performer that I can see is he's not promoted enough. As far as acoustic blues is concerned (and how its taught), this is the good stuff. He uses right...

hand, finger picks (which I do not) but there are still huge reservoirs of songs, licks, chord progressions and feeling available here. He's a good teacher, which is not necessarily a component of a good player. Learn these songs and you have a real saturn boost to your playing.
