Item Number: BA.TP00399

ISBN 9790006204625. 6.5x9 inches. Text Language: German/English. Preface: Christopher Hogwood.

This study score follows our very successful publications of the Urtext full score and performance material (BA 6994) and the piano reduction of all four concertos (BA 6994a).

This critical edition of Vivaldi's masterpiece is based on the Manchester manuscript source, which originates from Vivaldi's circle, and represents an alternative (in many cases, more explicit) version of these famous concertos. The Manchester source has until now not been used as the primary source for a modern edition.

- First study score to be based on the Manchester source
- Critical scholarly edition
- Details regarding the work's source history as well as comments on performance practice

Barenreiter is the most authentic source of scores for Baroque and early classical music. You want it free of edited dynamics, bowings, etc. Musicians of that time and today did and should come up with their own interpretations and variations of phrasing. That is music.

Honestly, don't buy an urtext edition if you're looking for an edition that has been "realized". The whole point of buying this edition is to have JUST the score, so that you may make your own decisions as to ornamentation, dynamics, etc. On another note, be aware that...

this is the urtext from a different source than most of us are used to, so some accidentals, etc., are very different than the traditional.

  • 2004-11-01 00:00:00.0 GREAT!

Overall, I was very pleased with the price, the value for money, and that it has all orchestral parts in this score. However, I would like to clarify that there are no dynamic markings in the text, and I was slightly suprised. Otherwise, very good, and I recommend it to...

everyone who is interested in Vivaldi's music or baroque music in general for an orchestra.
