    It is an excellent collection of some of the more famous arias, but by no means an exhaustive study. Also, nearly all the cadenzas are those used by famous artist in the early to mid 20th century and are not necessarily the type authentic to the period in which the...

    music was written. One will find no cadenzas by such famous singers who created most of the roles mentioned; none by Malibran, Pasta, Lind, etc. which would give a more authentic reading of the scores and what was done when the works were written. What we have are those we all know and hear all the time and have done since the 1950s. Great for what it is, but for a really serious musician, it will not inform your performances in any authentic way, nor even in the best representation of the styles of the various pieces.

    Very useful book for all the coloraturas who are looking for an alternative to the cadenzas written on their scores. It has a quite satisfactory variety of cadenzas to choose from, although you may not find all those you are looking for.
