Composed by North Carolina traditonal folk tune. Arranged by J. William Greene. Folk. Octavo. 4 pages. J. William Greene #28025. Published by J. William Greene (A0.982596).

This creative arrangement of a post-Civil War North Carolina folk tune exploits the "bending" of a melody around the beat, a common practice in folk music. While the beat is steady--though sometimes "stretched"--the tune occasionally "slips" behind or more rarely before the beat. When this happens the upper voices sometimes drop an initial hard consonant to avoid a stuttering effect. Singers of this ballad are encouraged to intensify this effect to greater or lesser degree according to their taste. Fermatas (as a momentary suspension of the beat) can be longer or shorter for the same reason. Dynamics should be derived from the text.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard’s global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. ArrangeMe allows for the publication of unique arrangements of both popular titles and original compositions from a wide variety of voices and backgrounds.
